My daughter would like me to write the story of my life and link it to my art and writing. I’m so glad she thinks that would be interesting; I’ll try it! For now, though, here is a short professional biography. (See the Art Portfolio page for more details about my artistic practice.)
Sylvia K. Miller lives in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, where she creates book art and offers consulting services under her imprint Arches Publishing. She serves as co-lead of Triangle Book Arts and Vice President of Nominations & Membership for CBAA, the Association for Book Arts Education. Highlights of her career include working in executive positions at Scribner and Routledge, directing national and international Mellon-funded collaborations including the Publishing the Long Civil Rights Movement Project at UNC Chapel Hill, and serving as Director, Scholarly Publishing and Research Development at Duke University’s John Hope Franklin Humanities Institute. She has shown her art in exhibits and fairs including at the North Carolina Museum of Art, the Zine Machine fair in Durham, and the Printed Matter fair with the Center for Book Arts. Her art is in the Esther K. Smith collection and university library collections. She holds a B.A. from U. C. Berkeley and an M.A. from Columbia University, both in Comparative Literature with a focus on poetry.
