Dream House

Small brown house with stylized curved driveway in front and foliage behind; circular insets show addition scenes (a fire in a fireplace, a goldfinch in the snow, a swing, a fern plant)

This collage shares magical memories of a house in the woods that was my mother’s “dream house.” Though we lived there only two years, I have fond memories of the charming house with its leaded glass windows and fireplace, and the natural surroundings. I remember wandering woodland paths, swinging on the swing that my father built for me at the edge of the woods where the ferns grew, and marveling at the bright color of the goldfinches sheltering from the snow under the eaves.

The composition is inspired by stylized graphics of the 1920s; it also references medieval paintings that showed more than one season of the year simultaneously and Renaissance maps and diagrams that included orbital circles and roundels containing magnified details.

Marbled and decorative paper and cardstock, colored pencil, and oil pastels.
